Sunscreens
This is a very common question being asked. Majority of patients are unaware of the correct amount of sunscreen required to give optimal results. I am writing these tips to help patients, and general public for using the correct sunscreen and to apply it correctly.
When to use sunscreen
Most people use sunscreen when they are going out. This is a good habit however one has to realise that UVB and UVA is damaging our skin even if we are indoors. Even on a cloudy day in mid winter we have to use sunblock.
How much to apply
The amount needed to give enough coverage is almost one ounce for the whole body.
When to apply
It is good practice to apply sunscreen before going out in sunlight and wait for 15 minutes. Our skin will absorb sunscreen and will start giving you protection.
How often sunscreen should be applied
Sunscreen should be applied every two hours. It should be re-applied after sweating, swimming and showering.
Whats the right sunscreen for you!
Any sunscreen which gives UVA and UVB protection is the best sunscreen. This higher the factor the best are the results.
Remember sunscreens and moisturisers are the two main creams to help prevent skin cancer and to maintain younger skin. It helps to prevent premature ageing of the skin, which becomes worse when exposed to UV light mainly coming via Sunlight.
